What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure stands for ‘Three Domain Secure’ – it is an internet payment authentication standard.

Visa have called their version ‘Verified by Visa’ or VBV for short and MasterCard have called their equivalent ‘MasterCard Secure Code’.

3D Secure can be thought of as an online version of ‘Chip and Pin’ technology, whereby the cardholder has a personalised password registered against their card that is then entered during the deposit process.

3D Secure authentication requires the cardholder, to register their card to take advantage of this service. This will be a one off process (per card) which takes place at the point of deposit.

The player selects a password which will then be used by the card issuer to authenticate each of the player’s initial transactions per card. Remember the player will only need to do this once!

So how does 3D secure work with our Online Casino?

On first deposit with each new card, the transaction that uses our casino banking system will automatically check to see if the player’s card is enrolled in the 3D secure scheme.

If the player’s bank is participating in the scheme, they will be taken to the banks secure website, this means they are on a web page outside of our cashier, where they enter their 3D Secure password, the payment is then taken as normal and they will then be smoothly delivered back to the banking confirmation page.

If the player’s bank is participating in the 3D secure scheme but they have not yet enrolled in the 3DS scheme, then by default, they will be offered the opportunity to register.

The player can then sign up for 3D Secure and proceed with the transaction or decline to sign up and proceed with the transaction as normal.
